Meet our staff

Rev. Andrew Smith (Andy)-- Minister of Word & Sacrament/ Pastor

Andy was called as Pastor of Grace United Presbyterian Church in October, 2015, to guide the church in its work of transformation and redevelopment. Prior to serving at Grace, Andy was solo pastor of a church in rural, south-eastern North Carolina. He earned his MDiv. in 2013 from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, where he was awarded the Walter Kennedy Patterson Memorial Fellowship in New Testament Greek. In Louisville, he also served at Second Presbyterian Church, and with Team Sweaty Sheep, one of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)'s 1001 New Worshiping Communities that ministered to the city's running, biking, and triathlete communities. He earned a B.A. in English & American Literature from Brandeis University in 2003. Between college and seminary, Andy worked as a bookstore manager, an HVAC repair tech, a substitute teacher, an affordable housing developer, and a residential services coordinator for people with physical and developmental disabilities.

Since moving to Wayne, Andy has emerged as a leader in the community, serving as President of the Wayne Clergy Fellowship, a charter member of the Chilton Clergy Advisory Board, a Trustee of the Friends of Passaic County Parks, and as an elected member of the Passaic County Committee.

Both Andy and his wife, Alicia, are from North Jersey originally, and are glad to be back! They have four kids ranging from 11 to 3 years old. In addition to ministry and his family, Andy loves reading, video games, playing the guitar, and running ultra-marathons (distances longer than 26.2 miles) and obstacle races (think Tough Mudder and Spartan Races).
